About Doc Jody.

Doc Jody is a Writer.  Winner of the Mayor's Award for Environmental Stewardship and of the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Conservation District "End-User" Groundwater Stewardship Award.  Doc Jody's household is the Designated Lowest End-User Water-Utility Consumer in our drought-stricken city, The City of Sunset Valley, Texas.  We have maintained a sustainable urban lifestyle at this home/office by maintaining a TOTAL UTILITY BILL (elec-gas-water-trash-sewage) of $72.50 in a 2,102-sq.ft. home WITHOUT SOLAR panels EACH & EVERY month for nearly 11 years.  This extreme-living in the midst of enormous waste of our natural resources (neighbors using 124,000+ gallons of water during Stage 2 Drought, e.g.,) prompted the inspiration for our community.  Austin resident Lance Armstrong used 330,000 gallons of water at his home (July 2008) during a Stage 2 Drought.

In Doc Jody's words:  "I am a born writer.  I knew since age seven I would write books.  By 5th grade, I wrote a book about the planets.  A late bloomer, I took a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to write about.  My first book was published in 2007 & I've been making up time since: 3 books published in 2008, two in-progress in early 2009 & another on the drawing board.

I earned my Bachelor of Science degree from The Ohio State University in 1978, with minors in Math & Chemistry.  My Masters from OSU in Zoology followed in 1980, with thesis.  I earned my Doctorate in Chiropractic in 1991 at Parker College in Dallas, where I operated my own clinic.  A retired military officer with overseas duty in remote Guatemala in 1993, I lived in semi-primitive conditions which sparked many of my ideas about leaving (or making) as small a footprint on the Earth as possible.  A year living in Panama in 1995 provided stark contrasts that brought me to question the Consumer Paradigm. I also have seven years' experience teaching Anatomy & Physiology under my belt.  I write about sustainable living topics, incl. cheap rainwater harvesting for gardening & for drinking, making Kombucha (tea), and earning ridiculously-low urban utility bills."
